Space & stars
Wave to the Moon
- Builds: Noticing the night sky
- 10 min
- Ages 1–3
- Calm
- No mess
From the house
- A window with a view of the sky
- A warm blanket (optional)
How to play
- Turn off the room lights so you see the sky, not your reflection.
- Hold them at the window and look for the Moon together: “Where’s the Moon? There it is!”
- Point to and name anything else you spot: a star, a cloud, a plane’s blinking light.
- Wave goodnight to each one. No Moon tonight? Wave to the stars or clouds and look again another night.
Fit it to your child
- Harder: Ask what shape the Moon is tonight (round, half or a thin curve) and tell them it shines with light from the Sun, because it makes no light of its own.
Words to use
- Moon
- star
- sky
- dark
- goodnight
Why it helps
Pointing at and naming the Moon and stars builds first words and the habit of looking up.
Grown-up eyes: Keep the window shut and hold them; never let them stand on the sill or on furniture by the window.
