Laundry-basket push
- Builds: Walking and pushing
- 10 min
- Ages 1–2
- Energetic
- No mess
From the house
- An empty laundry basket
- 2–3 books to weigh it down
- A teddy
How to play
- Put the books and teddy in the basket so it doesn’t slide away too fast.
- Show them how to hold the edge with both hands and push it across the rug.
- Teddy is going to the sofa: “Beep beep, coming through!”
- Unload teddy, turn the basket around, and push it back to you.
Fit it to your child
- Easier: If they’re not walking yet, they can push it while crawling, or you kneel in front and hold the other side.
- Harder: Call “stop” and “go” as they push, and give them a job: collect every teddy and drive them to bed.
Words to use
- push
- go
- stop
- heavy
- beep beep
Why it helps
Pushing a steady weight lets new walkers take more steps with support, which builds balance and leg strength.
Grown-up eyes: Push it on a rug or carpet, not a shiny floor, and stay close in case it tips or slides.
