Cushion tunnel
- Builds: Crawling and strength
- 10 min
- Ages 1–2
- Energetic
- A little tidy-up
From the house
- Sofa cushions or pillows
- A big cardboard box with both ends open (optional)
How to play
- Lean sofa cushions against each other in pairs to make a short tunnel, or open both ends of a big box.
- Lie at the far end, peek through and call their name.
- They crawl through to you, and you cheer and give them a cuddle at the end.
- Add a pillow to crawl over on the way: under, then over.
Fit it to your child
- Easier: Keep the tunnel very short, just one pair of cushions, so they can see your face the whole way.
- Harder: Make it longer with a bend, and send a teddy through first to show the way.
Words to use
- through
- under
- over
- come
- peekaboo
Why it helps
Crawling makes both arms and both legs work together and builds strength in their shoulders and tummy.
Grown-up eyes: Use only soft, light cushions, nothing that could hurt if the tunnel falls on them.
