Color hunt

  • Builds: Color words
  • 10 min
  • Ages 2–4
  • Energetic
  • No mess

From the house

  • A basket or box

How to play

  1. Ask, “Can you find something red?”
  2. They run to find it and drop it in the basket.
  3. Next color: blue, yellow, green.
  4. Sort everything into color piles at the end.

Fit it to your child

  • Easier: Hunt for one color only, and hold up a sample so they can match it.
  • Harder: Play I spy: “I spy something blue and soft.” They guess, then it’s their turn to spy.

Words to use

  • red
  • blue
  • yellow
  • green
  • find

Why it helps

Color names are slow to learn, and a hunt has them hearing and saying each one again and again.
