- Builds: Comparing tools
- 15 min
- Ages 1–4
- Energetic
- A little tidy-up
From the house
- Dish soap and water in a wide bowl
- Tools with holes: whisk, slotted spoon, sieve, cookie cutter, straw
How to play
- Mix a squirt of soap into a little water.
- Dip a tool and wave it, or blow through it.
- Which tool makes the most bubbles? The biggest one?
- They chase and pop them: clap, poke, stomp.
Fit it to your child
- Easier: You dip and blow while they chase, clap and pop.
- Harder: Before blowing through a star-shaped cookie cutter, they guess what shape the bubble will be.
Words to use
- blow
- pop
- round
- float
- many
Why it helps
Testing which tool makes the most bubbles is a real comparison, and they discover that every bubble comes out round, whatever the shape of the hole.
Grown-up eyes: Stay within arm’s reach of the water. You do the straw with 1-year-olds; show older ones how to blow out, not suck in. Wipe slippery floors.
