Space & stars
Be a star
- Builds: What stars look like
- 10 min
- Ages 2–4
- Calm
- No mess
From the house
- A round plastic plate or pot lid
- 6 spoons or rolled-up socks
- A rug or bed
How to play
- Put the plate on the floor: “This is a star. Real stars are round, like giant glowing balls.”
- They lay the spoons all around the plate, pointing outward, to show its light shining in every direction.
- Count the spoons together. Now it looks like the stars we draw!
- Lie down side by side and make stars with your bodies, arms and legs wide, while you sing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”.
Fit it to your child
- Easier: Skip the counting: lay the spoons together, then go straight to the body stars and the song.
- Harder: Tell them the Sun is a star too, the closest one to us, and they draw one with a round middle and lines of light.
Words to use
- star
- round
- shine
- light
- twinkle
Why it helps
Laying rays around a round middle shows them that stars are round balls that shine light out in every direction.
