Veggie scrubbing
- Builds: Helping with dinner
- 15 min
- Ages 1–4
- Calm
- Messy
From the house
- A big bowl of water
- Vegetables for dinner: potatoes, carrots, apples
- A scrub brush or sponge
- A towel
How to play
- Put the bowl on a towel on the floor or a low table.
- They scrub each vegetable clean.
- They hand them to you for cooking: “Thank you, chef!”
- Count how many they washed.
Fit it to your child
- Easier: Give them one big potato and a sponge, and sit right beside the bowl.
- Harder: They choose which washed veggies go into dinner and tell everyone at the table, “I washed these.”
Words to use
- wash
- scrub
- dirty
- clean
- count
Why it helps
Doing a real part of dinner shows them they’re a helper the family counts on, which is a big boost for a small person.
Grown-up eyes: Stay within arm’s reach of the water. Raw carrot and apple are choking risks under 4, so it’s scrubbing only, no nibbling.
