- 15 min
- Ages 2–5
- Energetic
- A little tidy-up
From the house
- 2 chairs
- A sheet or blanket
- Cushions
- A flashlight
How to play
- Drape the blanket over the chairs and hold the edges down with books.
- They pile cushions inside.
- Crawl in with the flashlight. It’s a cave!
- Read a book or tell a story inside.
Fit it to your child
- Easier: You drape the blanket; they fill the fort with cushions and teddies and crawl in and out.
- Harder: They plan where the door, window and bed go, then build it with books or clothespins holding the edges.

Why it helps
Working out how to hold up a roof and where the door goes is real building, done as a team.
Grown-up eyes: Nothing heavy on top, and keep the chairs steady.
