Tightrope walk
- Builds: Walking a line
- 10 min
- Ages 2–4
- Calm
- No mess
From the house
- Masking or painter’s tape
- A hallway or a clear stretch of floor
How to play
- Stick a long strip of tape on the floor. It’s a tightrope.
- Walk along it together with your arms out wide, one foot after the other.
- Try it on tiptoe, then sideways, then very, very slowly.
- Add a zigzag or a curve and walk that too.
Fit it to your child
- Easier: Make two lines a hand’s width apart and walk between them, holding your hand.
- Harder: Walk it heel to toe, then backwards, and freeze on one foot in the middle.
Words to use
- line
- balance
- arms out
- tiptoe
- wobble
- steady
Why it helps
Keeping their feet on a narrow line makes their whole body work to stay steady, and teaches them to notice where their feet go.
