Pillow stepping stones
- Builds: Balance and stepping
- 10 min
- Ages 2–5
- Energetic
- A little tidy-up
From the house
- Cushions, pillows and folded towels
How to play
- Lay the cushions on the floor in a path.
- The floor is water! Step from cushion to cushion.
- Add a towel bridge, and finish with a two-foot jump onto the last cushion.
- Let them build the next path.
Fit it to your child
- Easier: Push the cushions close together and hold their hand all the way across.
- Harder: Spread them further apart, cross on tiptoe, or add a rule: only step on the square ones.
Words to use
- step
- jump
- over
- across
- careful
Why it helps
Stepping across soft, wobbly cushions makes their feet, legs and tummy work to keep them steady, which builds balance and coordination.
Grown-up eyes: Play on a rug, not slippery tiles, and move sharp-cornered furniture.
