Play ideas for 2-year-olds
Two-year-olds copy everything you do, love to help and are starting to pretend. They talk in two-word sentences, jump and climb, and want to do it themselves.
- Give them a real job: stirring, carrying, wiping, sorting.
- Name what they do as they do it, and add one new word.
- Offer a choice of two (“the red cup or the blue cup?”) to head off a “no”.
Safety at 2: Choking is still the biggest risk: keep small parts away, cut food into small soft pieces (no whole grapes, nuts or popcorn), and stay within arm’s reach around water.
